Flavor Origin
Our primary source of raw, unfiltered honey comes from my very own Uncle Clint! He raises bees in his backyard apiary just outside of Eden, TX with his wife Liz and their four – yes, I said four – fur-babies; Casper, Skeeter, Winston, Sammy.
Once a year, after the bees have pollinated the wild cactus flowers and mesquite blooms across the property, he gently extracts the honey from his hives. The raw honey remains unprocessed – one may even find a piece of honeycomb in our Honey Roasted Peanut Butter – preserving the enzymes, amino acids, pollen, vitamins, and trace minerals naturally found in honey. Much like our peanut butter, I find it hard not to eat his honey straight out of the jar.
How It Fits Into Our Story
The Honey Roasted flavor is a key component to the origin story of Peanut Butter Passport. I grew up hooked on H-E-B’s freshly ground honey-roasted peanut butter, but my move to Chicago in the summer ’22 put me a plane ride away from my beloved snack.
On my first visit back home, I was disheartened to discover that, according to TSA, peanut butter is deemed a paste and could not be taken on a plane. I am not exaggerating when I say that my heart broke in two as I watched the TSA agent throw away my four jars. Yet, I was too frugal – my family would say cheap – to pay for a carry-on, so, I embarked on a quest to satisfy my peanut butter cravings…
I tried the staples like Peter Pan, Jif, and Justin's, as well as the freshly ground peanut butter from Whole Foods and Jewel Osco (shout-out to my fellow Chi-Town Peeps). Alas, none of them hit the spot, so, I started thinking of how I could make my own…
For our inaugural flavor, I wanted to pay tribute to my roots. What better way to do so than the very flavor that set this entire adventure in motion! Please enjoy our United States, Honey Roasted Peanut Butter, made with pronounceable ingredients right here in the good ol’ US of A!
